In July 2018, a dam collapsed in the mountainous region above Sanamxay District of Attapeu Province in Laos. Villages downstream were submerged under a wall of water, debris and mud. The dam was of a part of a hydropower project still under construction and it collapsed after severe rainfall during the previous weeks. More than 70 people were killed and thousands lost their homes, farmlands and livelihoods. Emergency shelters were arranged for the victims in tents and schools throughout the district and in neighboring provinces.
In the months since the disaster, with the help of donations from around the world, TerraClear has been able to provide over 2,350 filter sets to the families now living in temporary housing and shelters. TerraClear has a team of four employees working full time in the camps in order to provide training, service, and maintenance of the filters.
Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support of the people in Sanamxay!
